Welcome to the Celebration and Memories of Women at MIT

Celebrate MIT Women in the MIT 150th Project!

The Association of MIT Alumnae, AMITA, has created this wiki to celebrate/remember the Women at MIT.  Please add your comments to our collection of information about women who have impacted us and MIT.

We have divided our history pages into three broad eras which have corresponded to the spike of the number of women at MIT.

  • MIT Women Pioneers (including Ellen Swallow Richards (1873), Mrs. Katharine Dexter McCormick 1904)
  • McCormick Era (women who were at MIT when the only women's dorm was McCormick Hall, includes Dotty Bowe project)
  • Recent MIT Women (with no dorm restrictions, we may need to subdivide this)
  • Bearing Fruit (projects and accomplishments of alumnae, written 1998)

Each of these three, era links are divided into the women and a general note about the era.  For each woman/subsection we have a general biography/information with links on the web to references.  We also have a page for you to add information, stories, memories that you have.  We are currently and slowly adding new women and evolving this web site. There will also be a folder on each of the women currently highlighted.

The Recent MIT Women page is for telling us what you have been doing, what you like to remember.... View this as a place to get in touch and be able to link to others with your interest.  Please sign with a first name, major and year you "graduated" from MIT, remember this is a public wiki, although not everyone can edit.  If you want email addresses you can always find them on the alumni directory after logging into the Infinite Connection.

Share and celebrate MIT Alumnae in the news.   Add to this page as you see people you know in the news.  We might create a separate page on the alumnae if needed.

The Finding Found page is a place to post messages such as "I would love to get in touch with Xxx but she is not in the Alumni directory, email me offline"  or  "We just created this wonderful banner, would love comments"   Please be aware of the email internet troll which likes to spam you.  An idea is to use the alumni directory page of yourself, such as Sze-Wen '73.  Another way is to add descriptive words (like "at" for @) or spaces in the email address.

Thank you for coming here, enjoy looking over some of the women histories, and please contribute if you wish now or later.  Editing for the first time?  Please contact the wiki owner for writer access. Comments are appreciated on how to enhance this site in the comments section below.

For those who need info on using pbwiki

Click on links to go to new pages.  Note that the tab on the top of the page allows you view of if allowed, edit the page.  As a wiki,

the pages are editable by some and back versions are kept.  The edit page is similar to current digital editors, please remember to click the save button at the end of the page.  We are still trying this format so please tell us how to make this better.
